PROJECTS — LEVEL — FULL SECTION
A home is read from the ground up. Case studies will be set out the same way, by location, property type, brief, approach, materials, gallery and result. Until then, this page is a guide to briefs by level: a new layout, a kitchen, a surface refresh or the finishing layer, and the services behind each.
CASE STUDY LAYOUT
Location & property
Sydney area and home type: house, terrace, apartment or new build.
LEVEL: BRIEF
Client brief
What had to change, what had to stay and how the household lives.
LEVEL: APPROACH
Approach & materials
Layout moves, joinery, surfaces, lighting and the finish schedule.
LEVEL: RESULT
Gallery & result
How each case study will close: the rooms and what changed against the brief.
LEVEL — INDEX
FLOOR
BENCH
WALL
CEILING
FLOOR
Walls move, rooms are rezoned and circulation is redrawn. Briefs at this level bring the biggest change and rely on clear drawings for builders.
Space Planning · Renovation Interior Design · Design Documentation
BENCH
Focused rooms where the decisions follow the plumbing, appliances and cabinetry. Briefs here usually settle bench heights, storage and vanity details.
WALL
Paint, stone, tile and timber chosen as one palette. The layout stays put, and the room reads differently.
CEILING
The finishing layer, often done in stages: lighting plans, furniture chosen to scale and styling that settles a room.
Lighting & Finishes · Furniture Selection · Interior Styling
Whole-home briefs span every level: Residential Interior Design, New Build Interior Design and Apartment Interior Design, with 3D Interior Visualisation used before work starts.
LEVEL: TABLE TOP | FINISH BOARDS AND STONE SAMPLES
LEVEL — REFERENCE
Most briefs begin with saved images. They are more useful when you note which level you actually like. Is it the floorboards running into the next room, the stone on the bench, the colour on the wall or the pendant above the table? One photo can hold four separate decisions, and each one belongs to a different service and budget line.
Floor: layout, flow and flooring. See Space Planning: Getting the Layout Right.
Bench: cabinetry and wet areas. See Planning a Kitchen That Works.
Wall: palette and texture. See Choosing Colour Palettes for Sydney Light.
Ceiling: lighting layers. See Layered Lighting for Sydney Homes.
LEVEL — STREET
Housing stock shapes the brief as much as taste does, so a brief is read against the type of home it starts from. Each case study will note its area and property type. See all Sydney service areas.
01 Eastern Suburbs
Terraces, semis and coastal apartments where light and storage are the usual tension.
02 Lower North Shore
Established family houses alongside harbourside apartments.
03 Inner West
Narrow cottages and terraces that often call for rear extensions and clever layouts.
04 Northern Beaches
Beach houses and family homes that need hard-wearing surfaces.
05 Sydney CBD
Apartments where every centimetre of joinery and circulation counts.
LEVEL — NEXT
The most useful project to look at is your own. Book a consultation and we’ll go through your house level by level. Once we know what’s changing, we’ll match it to the right services. You can find out how that works on the Design Process page, or send a general question through Contact.
